Getting involved does not require doing everything. Start with the level of participation that fits your time, interests, and experience.

Speak to the School Board
Public comment gives residents an opportunity to speak directly to the School Board about matters within its authority.
- Requests must currently be submitted by 3 p.m. on the day of a regular meeting.
- Each speaker is generally allowed up to three minutes.
- The total public-comment period is limited to 30 minutes.
- Additional selection and topic limits may apply when many people request to speak.
Procedures can change. Review the district’s current Policy 206 Procedure before planning to speak.
Three Minutes Goes Quickly
- Identify the issue.
- Explain its effect.
- Provide one relevant fact or example.
- End with a clear question or request.
You do not need to explain everything you know. Focus on the point you most want the Board to consider.
Where Should I Start?
Starting with the person closest to an issue can clarify the facts and identify who has authority to address it.
Classroom or Student
Start with the teacher or appropriate school employee.
School-Level Concern
Start with the principal or school administration.
Districtwide Decision
Contact district leadership or School Board members about policy, governance, spending priorities, boundaries, or facilities.

Join the Process
Join an Advisory Group
Advisory groups give parents, students, employees, and community members recurring opportunities to review information, ask questions, and offer recommendations.
Participate in Five-Year Planning
Committees, surveys, listening sessions, and public meetings may provide opportunities to understand options before final recommendations reach the Board.
Make Your Participation Count
- Be timely: Participate while options remain open.
- Be specific: Identify the proposal or assumption.
- Use evidence: Link to reliable public information.
- Explain the impact: Connect the issue to students.
- Make a request: State what response or action you want.
- Follow up: Track whether the question was answered.
Personal experience matters, and it becomes more useful to decision-makers when connected to a broader policy, proposal, or measurable outcome.
